Narrative:

Was told by my lead that the contract carrier notified him that I was qualified to do the schedule check. When I brought it to the lead's attention that I was not qualified; the carrier maintenance controller told the lead technician that I was qualified when in fact later it was found that I was not qualified to do this check and to sign the airworthy release.

Title: A B757-200 WAS DISPATCHED AFTER COMPLETION OF A SCHEDULED OVERNIGHT SVC CHK THAT WAS ACCOMPLISHED AND SIGNED OFF BY AN UNQUALIFIED TECHNICIAN THAT DID NOT HAVE MAINT RELEASE AUTH.

Narrative: WAS TOLD BY MY LEAD THAT THE CONTRACT CARRIER NOTIFIED HIM THAT I WAS QUALIFIED TO DO THE SCHEDULE CHK. WHEN I BROUGHT IT TO THE LEAD'S ATTN THAT I WAS NOT QUALIFIED; THE CARRIER MAINT CTLR TOLD THE LEAD TECHNICIAN THAT I WAS QUALIFIED WHEN IN FACT LATER IT WAS FOUND THAT I WAS NOT QUALIFIED TO DO THIS CHK AND TO SIGN THE AIRWORTHY RELEASE.
