Narrative:

Upon taxiing for takeoff from taxiway ag to runway 23 on toronto pearson international airport, we were advised by ground control to monitor the tower frequency. Because of a short taxi, my attention was placed inside the cockpit since I was performing the before takeoff checklist. The tower controller came on the radio and told us to 'stop' which we did. Then, he said that we had crossed the hold short line for the protected area for runway 23, which was a few ft behind our main wheels. Then, he asked an A320 if they could land and aircraft Y replied 'no problem.' the aircraft Y airplane landed uneventfully and we took the runway for takeoff. We were at the end of a 4 day trip, on the last leg. We had been on duty since XA10 that morning. In my opinion, just indicating the position of the hold short line on the airport diagram would warn crews taxiing for runway 23 that this hold line is in a nonstandard position and far from the end of the runway, which is the assumption that is always made when taxiing to the end of a runway.
