Narrative:

Told to taxi to runway 35R at sdf via taxiway M, taxiway G, and taxiway D. Approaching runway 35R, switched to tower and requested takeoff clearance. Tower told us to hold short or up to and hold short. We continued to approach end of runway 35R. We crossed the approach hold short line. Tower then cleared us into position and then cleared us for takeoff. After we took off we discussed whether we should have crossed the approach hold short line. Since nothing was said, tower must have given us permission to cross the line by saying up to and hold short. I'm still not sure. It would help if ATC would remind us to hold short prior to taxiway D1.

Narrative: TOLD TO TAXI TO RWY 35R AT SDF VIA TXWY M, TXWY G, AND TXWY D. APCHING RWY 35R, SWITCHED TO TWR AND REQUESTED TKOF CLRNC. TWR TOLD US TO HOLD SHORT OR UP TO AND HOLD SHORT. WE CONTINUED TO APCH END OF RWY 35R. WE CROSSED THE APCH HOLD SHORT LINE. TWR THEN CLRED US INTO POS AND THEN CLRED US FOR TKOF. AFTER WE TOOK OFF WE DISCUSSED WHETHER WE SHOULD HAVE CROSSED THE APCH HOLD SHORT LINE. SINCE NOTHING WAS SAID, TWR MUST HAVE GIVEN US PERMISSION TO CROSS THE LINE BY SAYING UP TO AND HOLD SHORT. I'M STILL NOT SURE. IT WOULD HELP IF ATC WOULD REMIND US TO HOLD SHORT PRIOR TO TXWY D1.
