Narrative:
We were on short approach for runway 9L at mia, and the tower cleared someone in position. As things were getting a little tight, he asked us to make a quick s-turn to the left. The copilot (who was brand new) was flying and made a relative sharp turn to the left and stopped descending. By that time, maneuvering back for a safe approach was impossible. We instead made a 180 eeg turn and started a new downwind. When I asked the copilot what was going on, she thought he said to make a 360 degree turn. Initially, the tower was confused what we were doing. I explained the situation. He said, no problem, climb to 1500 ft, heading 270 degrees and re-enter downwind.' we came back and landed normally. A couple of points: it was my decision to re-enter downwind. Flying the published missed approach would not have been a safe option because of the aircraft taking off.

Title: B757 CREW MADE A GAR WHEN TWR CLRED ACFT INTO POS AHEAD OF THEM.
Narrative: WE WERE ON SHORT APCH FOR RWY 9L AT MIA, AND THE TWR CLRED SOMEONE IN POS. AS THINGS WERE GETTING A LITTLE TIGHT, HE ASKED US TO MAKE A QUICK S-TURN TO THE L. THE COPLT (WHO WAS BRAND NEW) WAS FLYING AND MADE A RELATIVE SHARP TURN TO THE L AND STOPPED DSNDING. BY THAT TIME, MANEUVERING BACK FOR A SAFE APCH WAS IMPOSSIBLE. WE INSTEAD MADE A 180 EEG TURN AND STARTED A NEW DOWNWIND. WHEN I ASKED THE COPLT WHAT WAS GOING ON, SHE THOUGHT HE SAID TO MAKE A 360 DEG TURN. INITIALLY, THE TWR WAS CONFUSED WHAT WE WERE DOING.
