Narrative:

I was lead plane of a 3 plane formation over an airshow. My aircraft had 4 jumpers, the 2 aircraft in trail were to circle the jumpers on their way to the surface. While on final approach to the airport, I accidently climbed 500 ft above our waiver altitude (5000 ft MSL). While at this altitude we saw an ATR-72 pass in front by 500 ft. No evasive action was taken, it was at this time we descended back down to waiver altitude and concluded the jump. I feel better radio communications with approach and or tower would have provided better separation.
