Narrative:

Filed and received IFR clearance from dtw to srq before departing dts at approximately XA30 local in VMC. Requested eglin departure to approve VFR coastal route to teres intersection as advised by FSS as normal local procedure. With eglin approval, transited R2919B and R2914B, after which eglin terminated radar service. We were confused by not being given handoff and unable to clarify with eglin due to radio traffic. We contacted tyndall approach to obtain further clearance, while turning inland to avoid tyndall's military airspace. During time elapsed to contact tyndall approach, secure radar identify and handoff to pfn tower, penetrated pfn class D airspace inadvertently. Notified PNF tower on first contact that citation traffic was in site, although this traffic had not been pointed out by tyndall approach. Citation was on approximately 2 1/2 mi downwind to base. We were admonished by pfn tower during first response and began turn to exit class D airspace to northwest, but were given eastbound heading by tower. Heard citation tell tower that they got a TCASII warning. Confusion arose between VFR and IFR procedures and we apparently contacted the wrong ATC facility and/or in untimely manner.

Title: A BE35 PENETRATED CLASS D AIRSPACE AT PFN RESULTING IN INTERVENTION BY ATC TO SEPARATE CONFLICTING TFC.

Narrative: FILED AND RECEIVED IFR CLRNC FROM DTW TO SRQ BEFORE DEPARTING DTS AT APPROX XA30 LCL IN VMC. REQUESTED EGLIN DEP TO APPROVE VFR COASTAL RTE TO TERES INTXN AS ADVISED BY FSS AS NORMAL LCL PROC. WITH EGLIN APPROVAL, TRANSITED R2919B AND R2914B, AFTER WHICH EGLIN TERMINATED RADAR SVC. WE WERE CONFUSED BY NOT BEING GIVEN HDOF AND UNABLE TO CLARIFY WITH EGLIN DUE TO RADIO TFC. WE CONTACTED TYNDALL APCH TO OBTAIN FURTHER CLRNC, WHILE TURNING INLAND TO AVOID TYNDALL'S MIL AIRSPACE. DURING TIME ELAPSED TO CONTACT TYNDALL APCH, SECURE RADAR IDENT AND HDOF TO PFN TWR, PENETRATED PFN CLASS D AIRSPACE INADVERTENTLY. NOTIFIED PNF TWR ON FIRST CONTACT THAT CITATION TFC WAS IN SITE, ALTHOUGH THIS TFC HAD NOT BEEN POINTED OUT BY TYNDALL APCH. CITATION WAS ON APPROX 2 1/2 MI DOWNWIND TO BASE. WE WERE ADMONISHED BY PFN TWR DURING FIRST RESPONSE AND BEGAN TURN TO EXIT CLASS D AIRSPACE TO NW, BUT WERE GIVEN EBOUND HDG BY TWR. HEARD CITATION TELL TWR THAT THEY GOT A TCASII WARNING. CONFUSION AROSE BTWN VFR AND IFR PROCS AND WE APPARENTLY CONTACTED THE WRONG ATC FACILITY AND/OR IN UNTIMELY MANNER.
