Narrative:
After takeoff; just after gear and flaps up; we lost left hydraulic system [pressure] and quantity. Tower gave us delay vectors while we handled the problem; running all needed checklists and preparing to land. We declared an emergency. The landing was normal; with light braking. Stopped on centerline and waited to get a tow to the gate. Nothing led up to the event; outcome was successful and no human factors to consider.
