Narrative:

This is an equipment problem that has been with us since receiving it. And that's the brand X radar scopes. In my sector alone, no less than 3 of 4 scopes have been removed from operation due to problems, mainly with the ARTS or the radar itself. I have filed a ucr in connection with this report with my facility. Today, during a moderate to heavy session, I lost total use of the scope, creating a very hazardous, unsafe situation. Traffic was stopped and airplanes had to be worked in an almost non radar environment. We have been insistent on the unreliability of this equipment, management included. My suggestion(south) include recalling the equipment that's affected by these problems. Additionally, controller confidence in this new equipment is less than it was with the old brand Y equipment.

Title: CTLR CLAIMS THAT NEWLY INSTALLED RADAR SCOPES AT N90 ARE NOT RELIABLE AND REPRESENT A SAFETY HAZARD.

Narrative: THIS IS AN EQUIP PROB THAT HAS BEEN WITH US SINCE RECEIVING IT. AND THAT'S THE BRAND X RADAR SCOPES. IN MY SECTOR ALONE, NO LESS THAN 3 OF 4 SCOPES HAVE BEEN REMOVED FROM OPERATION DUE TO PROBS, MAINLY WITH THE ARTS OR THE RADAR ITSELF. I HAVE FILED A UCR IN CONNECTION WITH THIS RPT WITH MY FAC. TODAY, DURING A MODERATE TO HEAVY SESSION, I LOST TOTAL USE OF THE SCOPE, CREATING A VERY HAZARDOUS, UNSAFE SITUATION. TFC WAS STOPPED AND AIRPLANES HAD TO BE WORKED IN AN ALMOST NON RADAR ENVIRONMENT. WE HAVE BEEN INSISTENT ON THE UNRELIABILITY OF THIS EQUIP, MGMNT INCLUDED. MY SUGGESTION(S) INCLUDE RECALLING THE EQUIP THAT'S AFFECTED BY THESE PROBS. ADDITIONALLY, CTLR CONFIDENCE IN THIS NEW EQUIP IS LESS THAN IT WAS WITH THE OLD BRAND Y EQUIP.
