Logbook write-up: #1 VHF communication weak in tx and rx. Referenced #1 vdr -- called maintenance office to confirm. Was advised that part was effective. I believe what happened is that I transposed the tail number for aircraft. I was notified the part I installed was not effective.

Title: A Mechanic reports about transposing the wrong B737-700 tail number when verifying with Maintenance Control if he had the correct part for a log book write-up of a weak #1 VHF. He installed a #1 VDR not effective for the aircraft.
