Narrative:

During aircraft inspection before lowering flaps I visually look at the right wing for obstacles did not see any. Upon entering cockpit no warning tags were in place; so I proceeded to drop the flaps and heard a loud noise. I immediately raised the flaps and shut hydraulics. Went downstairs and found left hand flap had contacted the open core cowl of #1 engine.
