Narrative:

I observed and wrote up the l-hand engine core cowls of aircraft X for excessive play. There was also a gap between the core cowl leading edge and thrust reverser trailing edge that was beyond limits per maintenance manual. The shims needed to correct the excessive play were not in stock. The item was signed off by management as being within limits.
