Narrative:

My co-pilot and myself taxied to runway 24 at teb. We ran through all of checklist items as we taxied out. As we were approaching runway 24, ground told us to contact tower. Tower told us we were cleared for immediate departure. All checklist items were complete so I accepted the clearance. I had the teb 5 departure laid out in front of me and I read it to my first officer. I was the PNF. I had flown this departure before, but this time I accidentally selected 2000 ft in the mode altitude controller. I should have selected 1500 ft. The teb 5 departure asks to climb to 1500 ft until crossing teb R-250 and passing teb 4.5 DME then to maintain 2000 ft. As we climbed out around 1700 ft I realized what had happened and before I could do anything about it ATC advised us that we should have maintained 1500 ft. Then they just asked us to look closer at the teb 5 departure. I accidentally put 2000 ft. Human error.

Title: A PC 12 PLT INADVERTENTLY SET 2000 FT INSTEAD OF 1500 FT IN THE ALT ALERTER ON A DEP FROM TEB. THE CREW VIOLATED THE DEP ALT RESTR.

Narrative: MY CO-PLT AND MYSELF TAXIED TO RWY 24 AT TEB. WE RAN THROUGH ALL OF CHKLIST ITEMS AS WE TAXIED OUT. AS WE WERE APCHING RWY 24, GND TOLD US TO CONTACT TWR. TWR TOLD US WE WERE CLRED FOR IMMEDIATE DEP. ALL CHKLIST ITEMS WERE COMPLETE SO I ACCEPTED THE CLRNC. I HAD THE TEB 5 DEP LAID OUT IN FRONT OF ME AND I READ IT TO MY FO. I WAS THE PNF. I HAD FLOWN THIS DEP BEFORE, BUT THIS TIME I ACCIDENTALLY SELECTED 2000 FT IN THE MODE ALT CTLR. I SHOULD HAVE SELECTED 1500 FT. THE TEB 5 DEP ASKS TO CLB TO 1500 FT UNTIL CROSSING TEB R-250 AND PASSING TEB 4.5 DME THEN TO MAINTAIN 2000 FT. AS WE CLBED OUT AROUND 1700 FT I REALIZED WHAT HAD HAPPENED AND BEFORE I COULD DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT ATC ADVISED US THAT WE SHOULD HAVE MAINTAINED 1500 FT. THEN THEY JUST ASKED US TO LOOK CLOSER AT THE TEB 5 DEP. I ACCIDENTALLY PUT 2000 FT. HUMAN ERROR.
