Narrative:

Operating on an IFR flight plan in IMC, I was handed off to ZKC approximately 25 mi from guy. When about 10 mi out I was cleared for a visual approach. I responded that I was solid IMC at that time and received no response. I got myself set up for a GPS 36 approach which was completed with the desired results. In the process several calls were made to center. I got 1 response that stated she was unable to clear for a GPS approach as there were none.
