Narrative:

We were instructed to taxi to runway 31 from the gate in crp. We taxied on taxiway a which serves 2 runways (runway 31 and runway 35). As we approached runway 31, I looked for the hold short line and didn't see it. At that time, the tower called and said we had passed the hold short line. I believe this is a common occurrence in crp and could be corrected with better markings and by including a runway incursion hot spot circle on the airport diagram. Callback conversation with tower specialist revealed the following information: two specialist stated that crp airport personnel completed approximately 6 months ago an entire airport re-signage and surface marking update program to conform with new FAA requirements and guidelines. Specialist advised that a runway incursion in this area of the airport is not common due to the new and improved signage markings.
