Narrative:

Due to communication/misunderstanding, we inadvertently crossed the 'hold short' lines for runway 13/31 at dsm. Visual checks were accomplished (no conflicts) prior to runway crossing. Ground control issued further taxi clearance as we were approaching, perhaps on the active runway. Factors: 1) normally on this taxi route, specific instructions are given to hold short of runway. (Very short distance from our ramp to runway.) this clearance was to 'taxi to,' omitting hold short verbiage. 2) fatigue -- little sleep, long days.
