Narrative:

We were completing an all-nighter, landing dfw approximately XA20 local. Approach brief at altitude included possibility of several runway choices. We were vectored for runway 17R which ATIS said was closed. Reconfigured radios from runway 18R. Approach offered a visual and asked to report runway or MD80 ahead. Saw airport and MD80 and accepted runway 17R visual to follow MD80. Vector was tight, approximately 45 degree intercept just inside FAF. GS intercept occurred prior to turning final. Approaching FAF, we completed landing checklist and saw an aircraft rolling out on the runway ahead. On contact with tower, they cleared us to land and rapidly read a list of closed turnoffs and txwys not on ATIS. First officer was attempting to write them down and had to ask tower to repeat list. First officer stated it looked like we were lined up with runway 18R. I checked, localizer not captured and landed following another approach.
