Narrative:

On 09/wed/01, at XA30 hours I was notified of a low battery voltage problem on company aircraft YYY parked at gate, ZZZ international airport. I found the battery charger circuit breaker open, which caused the battery to discharge. I suspect the flight crew bag caught and opened the circuit breaker. I ordered a serviceable battery from company stores department and it was delivered to the aircraft for installation. I installed the battery, preformed an operational check on the battery and charger system all checks were normal with no defects noted. I signed the logbook and dispatched the aircraft. I returned to the office to enter the maintenance and part information in to company computer system. The computer rejected the part information stating the part was unserviceable and to re check the serviceable tag. I did the recheck and found I was issued a part which expired shelf life by 5 days. At that point we contacted operations and we told the aircraft had not taken of and would return to the gate. Another crew replaced a second aircraft battery and dispatched the aircraft. I should have checked the serviceable tag closer prior to my installation with I will do I the future.
