Narrative:

As a reserve first officer started period from XA00 sep/fri/01, to XA00 09/sat/01. Was called in by crew scheduling for flts at approximately XA20 sep/fri/01. Completed sign in at XB42 and flew 2 turns. Was scheduled for XL31 departure to an overnight when bad WX caused the flight to be delayed till XM30. Was concerned about duty time and I called crew scheduling. The scheduler connected me with the supervisor who assured me that even with the new rerouted flight plan, I would arrive at destination and be released before 16 hours of duty had occurred. I questioned her, and as a new hire was concerned about going over the 16 hours, reminding her that I began my on call duty at XA00 and that the flight plan had me arriving after XE00 sep/sat/01. She assured me that the duty began at XD42 when I signed in, not from XA00 when my availability period started. She offered to call the chief pilot and call me back. She did and stated the assistant chief pilot to whom she had talked said that I was okay to fly and if I had any questions to see him the next day upon return. I made the flight landing at XR04 and being released at XR14 to XV19 after my availability period began and 20 mins earlier than the flight plan estimated. Being a new hire and it being my first time up against this kind of scheduling conflict I made the flight but in the future will have a copy of the regulations in my flight kit in the cockpit at all times.
