Narrative:

We picked up the aircraft on a through flight. Maintenance issued an MEL on a ceiling light in the forward galley. The captain and I were delayed getting into the flight deck because of maintenance in the flight deck. I made the assumption that all items written up were going to be fixed, and in the rush to get caught up, didn't ask the captain if there were any MEL's. The captain caught our mistake while climbing out that we had not updated our release with the new MEL's.
