Narrative:

Altitude: 10000 ft. ATC facility: lax. Location: 15 mi west lgb. Shortly after takeoff approaching 10000 ft, we noticed left engine oil quantity decreasing from 15 quarts to about 7 quarts then stabilize. We elected to hold west and burn fuel below maximum landing weight and land short of destination at lax. Informed ATC we intended a precautionary landing at lax. No emergency was declared. Maintenance found oil filler cap missing. Landing at lax was uneventful. Lax approach and coast approach were outstanding in assisting us and making the transition easy. Everyone at the lax station were equally awesome.
