A B757 captain reported that a waypoint had been omitted in his company dispatch, causing the aircraft's navigation computer to turn in the wrong direction, which was not in compliance with ATC's preferred routing.

Narrative:

Company dispatch failed to put micah after jeres intersection, then ewc VOR on flight plan, per ATC preferred routing. ZNY asked our routing and we entered micah to correct it. I plan to get full routing ATC clrncs after this event, when flying out of dca, to eliminate this in the future.
