Narrative:

Aircraft assigned 'heading 300 degrees.' read back 'FL300, roger?' controller responded 'affirmative.' this controller relieved from sector. New controller noticed air carrier X at FL300 and turned air carrier Y (at FL290) to miss aircraft #1. Aircraft #1 asked if climbing to FL310, 'no, I was assigned FL300.' aircraft #1 now turned and climbed but separation lost between 4 1/2 - 5 mi. An air carrier pilot should question issuance of FL330, FL320, etc.
