Narrative:

While holding short of runway 22R on taxiway V, we heard tower say, cross runway 22R and proceed to ramp on taxiway rb. So had gotten clearance from ramp to taxi in at taxiway rb entrance. Prior to entering ramp at taxiway rb, tower called and asked if any traffic coming out on taxiway rb. I said no, and you cleared us in via taxiway rb, and our ramp control has cleared us in also -- is there a problem? His response was garbled, so I assumed that there might have been a communication problem with us taxiing to ramp without talking to ground. I called ground while taxiing in to ramp and told him that I might have misunderstood tower instruction to taxi to ramp. He said no problem. Also, recontacted tower and repeated above. He said no problem also.
