Narrative:

After being deiced/anti-iced and given pertinent information via radio, we were cleared by deice personnel to contact ramp tower for taxi. Ramp tower instructed us to taxi to spot X. As we slowly moved forward, we felt a slight shudder and the captain smoothly stopped the aircraft. We called deice radio back and asked what happened. After a pause he responded that there had been a communications mix-up and that a deice truck that had previously cleared us had moved back in front of the wing (without clearance). We taxied back to a gate where maintenance inspection revealed damage to 2 slats. Contributing factors include: 1) WX -- 1/2 mi visibility, wind gusting to 21 KTS, snow. 2) several deice vehicles on 1 frequency without positive control or verification of each truck position, ie, several trucks called clear and the coordinator thought they all had cleared.
