Narrative:

ATC clearance received via ACARS and printed out for display and used to input for FMS flight plan route. Printout showed 'ATC clearance' with 'filed' clearance directly below it. For correct clearance to be utilized for input into FMS, I use the printed form displayed for guidance. However, route that was entered into FMS was filed route, not ATC cleared route. It was not picked up as error by first officer when checking the entered flight plan. It was only until departure gave us a turn to intercept the transition did we realize that incorrect transition was entered in FMS. Suggestion: do not give filed routing along with a change as ATC clearance. I knew what filed routing was, my ATC clearance is my primary concern.

Title: CAPT OF AN MLG INADVERTENTLY MISPROGRAMMED THE ACFT FMS IN ERROR RESULTING IN ATC INTERVENTION DURING DEP CLB TO CORRECT THE ACFT BACK TO THE CLRNC TRACK.

Narrative: ATC CLRNC RECEIVED VIA ACARS AND PRINTED OUT FOR DISPLAY AND USED TO INPUT FOR FMS FLT PLAN RTE. PRINTOUT SHOWED 'ATC CLRNC' WITH 'FILED' CLRNC DIRECTLY BELOW IT. FOR CORRECT CLRNC TO BE UTILIZED FOR INPUT INTO FMS, I USE THE PRINTED FORM DISPLAYED FOR GUIDANCE. HOWEVER, RTE THAT WAS ENTERED INTO FMS WAS FILED RTE, NOT ATC CLRED RTE. IT WAS NOT PICKED UP AS ERROR BY FO WHEN CHKING THE ENTERED FLT PLAN. IT WAS ONLY UNTIL DEP GAVE US A TURN TO INTERCEPT THE TRANSITION DID WE REALIZE THAT INCORRECT TRANSITION WAS ENTERED IN FMS. SUGGESTION: DO NOT GIVE FILED ROUTING ALONG WITH A CHANGE AS ATC CLRNC. I KNEW WHAT FILED ROUTING WAS, MY ATC CLRNC IS MY PRIMARY CONCERN.
