Narrative:
We were cleared to climb to 17000 ft. I was flying on autoplt and had 17000 ft set in the altitude window. I believe the altitude select switch was in the select position. I observed the altimeter passing through 17200 ft. I disengaged the autoplt and took manual corrective action. The altitude reached a maximum of 17400 ft. Contributing factors were: 1) work load distrs, 2) ATC communications to confirm a rerte, 3) choppy air, 4) I believe the altitude select switched to off and I didn't detect it.
