Narrative:

TCASII target appeared at 12 O'clock position at approximately 2 mi, showing 900 ft. We were descending per ATC clearance from 6000 ft to 4000 ft MSL. TCASII RA/TA said 'climb, climb now' which we immediately did. Aircraft passed slightly off to our left, same altitude of 5200 ft MSL. Phx approach confirmed intruder was inside TCA and not known to ATC, or communicating with anyone. I am convinced that collision would, most likely, have occurred without the benefit of TCASII.
