Narrative:

Clearance through arsa from vny was south to reservoir, turn left over mountains, cross over observatory. Bur approach cleared me to 5500', then said I had entered the TCA. I do not think that I did enter the TCA, but if I did approach should have vectored me clear of the TCA, or had contact with lax to keep my legal. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following: pilots intended route, direct poc VOR, would have given better distance from TCA boundary. If left to his own devices, pilot would have avoided TCA, he still feels he did. No FAA follow-up.
