Narrative:
The aircraft was cleared to position and hold on cvg runway 27. What occurred next is in dispute. The captain and I thought that we heard a takeoff clearance. We initiated a takeoff roll. The tower canceled our takeoff roll and we stopped well short of the intersecting runway. A (air carrier Y) 727 was given a go around clearance on runway 18R. The 727 was given vectors to do a teardrop turn to land on runway 36R. The tower said that they were turning the airport around. This would be a possible distraction for the tower during which they may have mistakenly issued a takeoff clearance.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: TWR CTLR CANCELED TKOF FOR FLC OF AN LTT AND SENT A LGT AROUND ON AN INTERSECTING RWY.
Narrative: THE ACFT WAS CLRED TO POS AND HOLD ON CVG RWY 27. WHAT OCCURRED NEXT IS IN DISPUTE. THE CAPT AND I THOUGHT THAT WE HEARD A TKOF CLRNC. WE INITIATED A TKOF ROLL. THE TWR CANCELED OUR TKOF ROLL AND WE STOPPED WELL SHORT OF THE INTERSECTING RWY. A (ACR Y) 727 WAS GIVEN A GAR CLRNC ON RWY 18R. THE 727 WAS GIVEN VECTORS TO DO A TEARDROP TURN TO LAND ON RWY 36R. THE TWR SAID THAT THEY WERE TURNING THE ARPT AROUND. THIS WOULD BE A POSSIBLE DISTR FOR THE TWR DURING WHICH THEY MAY HAVE MISTAKENLY ISSUED A TKOF CLRNC.
