Narrative:
Contacted tower and reported that I had ATIS and requested landing. Tower cleared me for straight-in landing to runway 6L. No other traffic reported in area. After landing, tower controller requested my n-number and admonished me for not reporting 2 mi out. It was my understanding that I was 'cleared.' controller said that I always had to report '2 mi out' no matter what. Tower had been in operation less than 2 weeks. Airport is my home base.
