Narrative:

Clearance was received to taxi from the ramp area of north side concourse to runway 31C via P and G to hold short of runway 31R. The captain taxied via P and, as I saw that we were approaching the hold short line of runway 31R, I told him 'he (the controller) said hold short of runway 31R.' the captain said, 'no, he said hold short of 31L!' due to the taxi speed we began moving across runway 31R. Ground control said, 'I told you to hold short of runway 31R.' it's too late now, contact tower.' I told the controller 'I'm sorry about that' and switched to tower. There was no approaching traffic in sight in the air or on the ground for runway 31R. This situation had developed very rapidly due to the following: I could not determine that the captain was not going to stop short of the 31R runway until we were at the hold short line. The taxi speed at the time was such that the aircraft could not have been stopped in time without someone in the cabin sustaining an injury -- possibly.

Title: RWY INCURSION IN NIGHT OP.

Narrative: CLRNC WAS RECEIVED TO TAXI FROM THE RAMP AREA OF N SIDE CONCOURSE TO RWY 31C VIA P AND G TO HOLD SHORT OF RWY 31R. THE CAPT TAXIED VIA P AND, AS I SAW THAT WE WERE APCHING THE HOLD SHORT LINE OF RWY 31R, I TOLD HIM 'HE (THE CTLR) SAID HOLD SHORT OF RWY 31R.' THE CAPT SAID, 'NO, HE SAID HOLD SHORT OF 31L!' DUE TO THE TAXI SPD WE BEGAN MOVING ACROSS RWY 31R. GND CTL SAID, 'I TOLD YOU TO HOLD SHORT OF RWY 31R.' IT'S TOO LATE NOW, CONTACT TWR.' I TOLD THE CTLR 'I'M SORRY ABOUT THAT' AND SWITCHED TO TWR. THERE WAS NO APCHING TFC IN SIGHT IN THE AIR OR ON THE GND FOR RWY 31R. THIS SIT HAD DEVELOPED VERY RAPIDLY DUE TO THE FOLLOWING: I COULD NOT DETERMINE THAT THE CAPT WAS NOT GOING TO STOP SHORT OF THE 31R RWY UNTIL WE WERE AT THE HOLD SHORT LINE. THE TAXI SPD AT THE TIME WAS SUCH THAT THE ACFT COULD NOT HAVE BEEN STOPPED IN TIME WITHOUT SOMEONE IN THE CABIN SUSTAINING AN INJURY -- POSSIBLY.
