Narrative:

I was cleared to taxi to runway 33. According to government approach plates airport diagram, I was on the main ramp and started taxiing toward the runway, looking for taxiway K (a 135 degree right turn) to put me on taxiway F. The identify on the airport diagram for taxiway K blocked the view for taxiway F continuing all the way to the ramp. I was taxiing on the taxi lines in the pavement looking for my hard right turn. I saw it and started towards it when I realized that my nose crossed over the runway hold short line. At the time, a huge thunderstorm passed through mins earlier and it was still raining. The hold short lines were not easy to see and I thought I had considerable distance still from the runway, and was about to make my right turn onto taxiway. Additional signage needs to be on this large ramp giving heads up, runway near or something to prevent others from repeating this, especially when the tower is closed. The tower did their job by telling me to stop when they saw I was about to cross the hold short line. Poor visibility, and my interpretation of what to look for, caused me to miss the original right turn onto taxiway F and look only for taxiway K. Lesson learned.

Title: RWY INCURSION DURING A NIGHT OP IN THE RAIN BY THE PIC OF A CESSNA CITATION 1 AT MTN, MD.

Narrative: I WAS CLRED TO TAXI TO RWY 33. ACCORDING TO GOV APCH PLATES ARPT DIAGRAM, I WAS ON THE MAIN RAMP AND STARTED TAXIING TOWARD THE RWY, LOOKING FOR TXWY K (A 135 DEG R TURN) TO PUT ME ON TXWY F. THE IDENT ON THE ARPT DIAGRAM FOR TXWY K BLOCKED THE VIEW FOR TXWY F CONTINUING ALL THE WAY TO THE RAMP. I WAS TAXIING ON THE TAXI LINES IN THE PAVEMENT LOOKING FOR MY HARD R TURN. I SAW IT AND STARTED TOWARDS IT WHEN I REALIZED THAT MY NOSE CROSSED OVER THE RWY HOLD SHORT LINE. AT THE TIME, A HUGE TSTM PASSED THROUGH MINS EARLIER AND IT WAS STILL RAINING. THE HOLD SHORT LINES WERE NOT EASY TO SEE AND I THOUGHT I HAD CONSIDERABLE DISTANCE STILL FROM THE RWY, AND WAS ABOUT TO MAKE MY R TURN ONTO TXWY. ADDITIONAL SIGNAGE NEEDS TO BE ON THIS LARGE RAMP GIVING HEADS UP, RWY NEAR OR SOMETHING TO PREVENT OTHERS FROM REPEATING THIS, ESPECIALLY WHEN THE TWR IS CLOSED. THE TWR DID THEIR JOB BY TELLING ME TO STOP WHEN THEY SAW I WAS ABOUT TO CROSS THE HOLD SHORT LINE. POOR VISIBILITY, AND MY INTERP OF WHAT TO LOOK FOR, CAUSED ME TO MISS THE ORIGINAL R TURN ONTO TXWY F AND LOOK ONLY FOR TXWY K. LESSON LEARNED.
