Narrative:
After landing at pit on runway 28L, we exited at C-4. Tower gave us a taxi clearance of 'left on charlie and right on charlie 2.' I did not have my airport map out. My first officer advised me to turn right. It was dark, I did, and it was not C2 but taxiway V which was across the last part of runway 28C. As far as whose fault this was, it was mine. Although it was dark, I was tired (on duty about 13 hours) and the signs were small. We did not realize that we had crossed the runway 28C until after. I feel that this could have been avoided first by me having my map out and being more prepared for the clearance. Second, by having better markings for txwys -- especially at night. Third, I feel some of the duty days are a little excessive. At that point we had been on duty in excess of 13 hours with flying time of almost 7 hours.
