Narrative:

Before start check completed with 'transponder to go,' as check was completed prior to pre departure clearance being available. When 'final paperwork' was delivered to aircraft by agent, pre departure clearance was not included and its absence not noted. Normal clearance for taxi and takeoff were received by tower. We were at slc, our home base. When cleared to departure we were given correct squawk at which time I realized we had not been given our pre departure clearance. Our flight plan was pih...ida. I requested RNAV to ida from departure to verify a clearance, 20 mins away, and flight was made to ida. As only the correct squawk was questioned, it is my assumption clearance had sent the pre departure clearance as normal not knowing we had not received it. As at some airports, giving transponder code on initial call to ATC, ground would preclude this mistake.

Title: MLG DEPARTS WITHOUT PDC.

Narrative: BEFORE START CHK COMPLETED WITH 'XPONDER TO GO,' AS CHK WAS COMPLETED PRIOR TO PDC BEING AVAILABLE. WHEN 'FINAL PAPERWORK' WAS DELIVERED TO ACFT BY AGENT, PDC WAS NOT INCLUDED AND ITS ABSENCE NOT NOTED. NORMAL CLRNC FOR TAXI AND TKOF WERE RECEIVED BY TWR. WE WERE AT SLC, OUR HOME BASE. WHEN CLRED TO DEP WE WERE GIVEN CORRECT SQUAWK AT WHICH TIME I REALIZED WE HAD NOT BEEN GIVEN OUR PDC. OUR FLT PLAN WAS PIH...IDA. I REQUESTED RNAV TO IDA FROM DEP TO VERIFY A CLRNC, 20 MINS AWAY, AND FLT WAS MADE TO IDA. AS ONLY THE CORRECT SQUAWK WAS QUESTIONED, IT IS MY ASSUMPTION CLRNC HAD SENT THE PDC AS NORMAL NOT KNOWING WE HAD NOT RECEIVED IT. AS AT SOME ARPTS, GIVING XPONDER CODE ON INITIAL CALL TO ATC, GND WOULD PRECLUDE THIS MISTAKE.
