Narrative:

At approximately 28000 ft MSL we lost the cabin pressurization. Proper procedures were accomplished according to checklist. Captain asked for lower and altimeter setting and began emergency descent to 14000 ft. First officer worked at controling cabin, however, pressurization could not be maintained even though valve indicated closed. Proper PA's were made and verification of oxygen masks in passenger cabin was checked. We elected to continue on to ewr at 10000 ft and landed with no further incident after declaring an emergency. Emergency vehicles met us upon landing even though we told them we did not require them 2 times. EMS was called to meet us at the gate in case passenger required assistance. Supplemental information from acn 256145: but there were no medical problems due to emergency descent or unpressurized flight. Maintenance found part of the seal missing around the aft cargo door.
