Narrative:

Descending to 6000 ft on a heading to intercept the localizer of the lda DME runway 12L at stl. Approach cleared us for the visual runway 12L and gave traffic at 3 O'clock which had us in sight. At that point we got a TCASII RA. We had visual on the traffic and followed the TCASII commands to avoid conflict. As far as I know we were following our clearance precisely! Stl approach turned us on side-by-side, no stagger! Stl expected us to essentially do their job! Very poor ATC!
