Narrative:

I took my ATP chkride on 10/sat/91 and was issued a temporary certificate on that date. At the time I considered that 120 days (the valid period of the temporary as stated on the back) to be basically 6 months. On 2/92 while pulling out a credit card I saw the temporary certificate in my wallet and realized that the time was probably about up. Calculations revealed that my temporary certificate had expired on 2/X/92. Knowing that I was scheduled to fly again on 2/X+5 I called the FSDO to get a field extension. They advised me that the temporary was good till the end of the sixth month. Just to cover myself I asked them to send a letter to that effect to my company. They said they couldn't do that but that they would issue me a new temporary (they did). I'm still a little uneasy over the situation because of the FSDO's reluctance to verify the validity of the original temporary. I have not told anyone about the trips I made but the information is in the company records and even my own logbook for any investigator with the initiative to dig it out. I consider the length of time between the event (chkride) and the need for action (see if the permanent license has arrived) as a setup that makes it very likely that the action will get overlooked. It was my honest intention to count up the time and mark it on the calendar but I didn't have a 1992 calendar in 10/91. Be december, I had forgotten it. Remark: how the devil can it possibly take 6 months to move 2 pieces of paper across a desk?

Title: ACR CAPT FLEW WITH EXPIRED TEMPORARY CERTIFICATE.

Narrative: I TOOK MY ATP CHKRIDE ON 10/SAT/91 AND WAS ISSUED A TEMPORARY CERTIFICATE ON THAT DATE. I HAVE NOT TOLD ANYONE ABOUT THE TRIPS I MADE BUT THE INFO IS IN THE COMPANY RECORDS AND EVEN MY OWN LOGBOOK FOR ANY INVESTIGATOR WITH THE INITIATIVE TO DIG IT OUT. I CONSIDER THE LENGTH OF TIME BTWN THE EVENT (CHKRIDE) AND THE NEED FOR ACTION (SEE IF THE PERMANENT LICENSE HAS ARRIVED) AS A SETUP THAT MAKES IT VERY LIKELY THAT THE ACTION WILL GET OVERLOOKED.
