Narrative:

Continued instrument approachs into this location while NAVAID inoperative. The jas NDB has been broken more than not for at least 11 yrs. NDB is of very old technology and (unbelievable) lies under high voltage power lines! It is very limited in its coverage because of electrical interference. Recommend NDB be moved to location to allow no electrical interference or be upgraded with LORAN/RNAV approach. Unsafe operations continue with the use of 'cruise' clrncs. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: cpr jets use the airport which has 2000 min for approach and landing. NDB is needed for navigation positional awareness for the approach. Many aircraft have been observed pushing the WX and clouds to make it into the airport. Main concern is that there is a new NDB planned for installation in the same location under the high voltage power lines -- and so called experts planning the installation claim the power lines do not affect the reliability of the NDB signal. Reporter would like to see a new location for the NDB away from the power lines.

Narrative: CONTINUED INST APCHS INTO THIS LOCATION WHILE NAVAID INOP. THE JAS NDB HAS BEEN BROKEN MORE THAN NOT FOR AT LEAST 11 YRS. NDB IS OF VERY OLD TECHNOLOGY AND (UNBELIEVABLE) LIES UNDER HIGH VOLTAGE PWR LINES! IT IS VERY LIMITED IN ITS COVERAGE BECAUSE OF ELECTRICAL INTERFERENCE. RECOMMEND NDB BE MOVED TO LOCATION TO ALLOW NO ELECTRICAL INTERFERENCE OR BE UPGRADED WITH LORAN/RNAV APCH. UNSAFE OPS CONTINUE WITH THE USE OF 'CRUISE' CLRNCS. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: CPR JETS USE THE ARPT WHICH HAS 2000 MIN FOR APCH AND LNDG. NDB IS NEEDED FOR NAV POSITIONAL AWARENESS FOR THE APCH. MANY ACFT HAVE BEEN OBSERVED PUSHING THE WX AND CLOUDS TO MAKE IT INTO THE ARPT. MAIN CONCERN IS THAT THERE IS A NEW NDB PLANNED FOR INSTALLATION IN THE SAME LOCATION UNDER THE HIGH VOLTAGE PWR LINES -- AND SO CALLED EXPERTS PLANNING THE INSTALLATION CLAIM THE PWR LINES DO NOT AFFECT THE RELIABILITY OF THE NDB SIGNAL. RPTR WOULD LIKE TO SEE A NEW LOCATION FOR THE NDB AWAY FROM THE PWR LINES.
