Narrative:

An uneventful flight brought us directly over E67. Only one runway was idented. There was a very faint 'X' painted in the middle of the runway, not near the runway number one would expect if the airport was closed. The runway seemed very short. We checked the AOPA airport directory, in hopes of renting a car. We also checked a current phoenix sectional. After landing, we walked the runway and estimated it to be 1100 ft long. We used the 'short field' takeoff technique to leave the area after conducting our business. In checking WX, I asked for NOTAMS, and there were none. However, the airport facility directory stated the airport is closed except for local traffic. 50 percent of the runway was washed out in a flood 4 yrs ago. This airport is an accident waiting to happen. Although the airport facility directory covers the FAA legally, I feel the remaining runway length (1100 ft) should be published on all current sectionals, not what the runway length used to be (2900 ft) 4 yrs ago. Whenever the new runway is constructed, the new sectionals can then be corrected. The runway construction is on hold because of bureaucratic wrangling. Please have appropriate departments correct the sectionals! 4 yrs of erroneous runway length on sectionals/pubs is a travesty to air commerce. And I will always check the airport facility directory. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: reporter stated that he believes that the sectional chart should be changed to show the present actual runway length since he did not receive any NOTAM regarding the airport closure from the FSS when checking the WX. He further stated that he is an FAA accident prevention counselor in his home area. He was informed by the airport management that the repair funds have been approved but has been held up for some unknown reasons. Reportable airport representatives have gone to washington dc for help in getting funds released.

Title: PLT OF A BEECHCRAFT BEA36 LANDED ON A CLOSED RWY ARPT. THE RPTR COMPLAINS THAT THE SECTIONAL CHART DID NOT REFLECT THE REDUCED RWY LENGTH EVEN THOUGH THE ARPT FACILITY DIRECTORY STATED THAT THE ARPT WAS CLOSED INDEFINITELY.

Narrative: AN UNEVENTFUL FLT BROUGHT US DIRECTLY OVER E67. ONLY ONE RWY WAS IDENTED. THERE WAS A VERY FAINT 'X' PAINTED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE RWY, NOT NEAR THE RWY NUMBER ONE WOULD EXPECT IF THE ARPT WAS CLOSED. THE RWY SEEMED VERY SHORT. WE CHKED THE AOPA ARPT DIRECTORY, IN HOPES OF RENTING A CAR. WE ALSO CHKED A CURRENT PHOENIX SECTIONAL. AFTER LNDG, WE WALKED THE RWY AND ESTIMATED IT TO BE 1100 FT LONG. WE USED THE 'SHORT FIELD' TKOF TECHNIQUE TO LEAVE THE AREA AFTER CONDUCTING OUR BUSINESS. IN CHKING WX, I ASKED FOR NOTAMS, AND THERE WERE NONE. HOWEVER, THE ARPT FACILITY DIRECTORY STATED THE ARPT IS CLOSED EXCEPT FOR LCL TFC. 50 PERCENT OF THE RWY WAS WASHED OUT IN A FLOOD 4 YRS AGO. THIS ARPT IS AN ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN. ALTHOUGH THE ARPT FACILITY DIRECTORY COVERS THE FAA LEGALLY, I FEEL THE REMAINING RWY LENGTH (1100 FT) SHOULD BE PUBLISHED ON ALL CURRENT SECTIONALS, NOT WHAT THE RWY LENGTH USED TO BE (2900 FT) 4 YRS AGO. WHENEVER THE NEW RWY IS CONSTRUCTED, THE NEW SECTIONALS CAN THEN BE CORRECTED. THE RWY CONSTRUCTION IS ON HOLD BECAUSE OF BUREAUCRATIC WRANGLING. PLEASE HAVE APPROPRIATE DEPTS CORRECT THE SECTIONALS! 4 YRS OF ERRONEOUS RWY LENGTH ON SECTIONALS/PUBS IS A TRAVESTY TO AIR COMMERCE. AND I WILL ALWAYS CHK THE ARPT FACILITY DIRECTORY. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: RPTR STATED THAT HE BELIEVES THAT THE SECTIONAL CHART SHOULD BE CHANGED TO SHOW THE PRESENT ACTUAL RWY LENGTH SINCE HE DID NOT RECEIVE ANY NOTAM REGARDING THE ARPT CLOSURE FROM THE FSS WHEN CHKING THE WX. HE FURTHER STATED THAT HE IS AN FAA ACCIDENT PREVENTION COUNSELOR IN HIS HOME AREA. HE WAS INFORMED BY THE ARPT MGMNT THAT THE REPAIR FUNDS HAVE BEEN APPROVED BUT HAS BEEN HELD UP FOR SOME UNKNOWN REASONS. REPORTABLE ARPT REPRESENTATIVES HAVE GONE TO WASHINGTON DC FOR HELP IN GETTING FUNDS RELEASED.
