Narrative:

Tower called aircraft to warn of a low altitude alert outside the final approach fix. The FMS map mode showed us inside 'reebo' the FAF and therefore we were descending to localizer mins. Tower advised us that we were low. There seemed to be a difference of 2 mi between localizer FAF and FMS FAF. Solution should be 1 pilot must display raw data on HSI for all nonprecision approachs. Supplemental information from acn 192724. Used dir/intc page on FMS to clean up map display. Reebo (the FAF) dropped off the map display and F/a appeared. (F/a is preset fix the computer shows 8 mi from selected runway). Reebo (FAF) is 5.1 mi from runway. We started to MDA 2.9 mi early and the approach controller called it.
