Narrative:

Descent into fll, vectored downwind for runway 27R. Clearance to 2000' and believe we read back clearance as normal practice. Passing through 3000', controller reported we were cleared to only 4000'. Leveled off at 3000'. Noticed traffic at 2000' approximately 4 mi north. Apparently confusion over same company similar identify on same frequency. Points out importance of complete readbacks including entire call sign for all clrncs.
