Customer and bag loaded out of ZZZZ to ZZZ1. The bag was in a cardboard box package. The bag did not make the original connecting flight from ZZZ1 to ZZZ2. The bag was expedited on a flight [the next day]. Upon receipt in ZZZ2; agent opened the bag to deliver it and contacted the customer. The agent noted the was a lithium battery in the bag.
