Narrative:

After practicing some maneuvers in the local area, I returned in the small aircraft to perform several touch and goes. The first approach I made a go around (practice) and joined downwind to make a normal traffic pattern. A final landing checklist was performed and the gear extended. A green light indicated. Everything appeared normal and the tower cleared me to land. On base leg I performed a gumps check and the green light was confirmed. On final (short) the propeller was advanced, power reduced carburetor heat applied and gear down light checked on. A normal landing followed until the nose proceeded to pitch down and the propeller contacted the runway. We skidded to a stop as the nose gear collapsed. An FAA inspector photographed the airplane and inspected the runway and cabin. The aircraft was then towed from the scene with the main gear still extended. Mechanical downlock, for the nose gear I think may have failed. No determination has been made at this point. A suggestion of 3 green lights instead of one.

Title: GA SMA NOSE GEAR COLLAPSED ON LNDG.

Narrative: AFTER PRACTICING SOME MANEUVERS IN THE LCL AREA, I RETURNED IN THE SMA TO PERFORM SEVERAL TOUCH AND GOES. THE FIRST APCH I MADE A GO AROUND (PRACTICE) AND JOINED DOWNWIND TO MAKE A NORMAL TFC PATTERN. A FINAL LNDG CHKLIST WAS PERFORMED AND THE GEAR EXTENDED. A GREEN LIGHT INDICATED. EVERYTHING APPEARED NORMAL AND THE TWR CLRED ME TO LAND. ON BASE LEG I PERFORMED A GUMPS CHK AND THE GREEN LIGHT WAS CONFIRMED. ON FINAL (SHORT) THE PROP WAS ADVANCED, PWR REDUCED CARB HEAT APPLIED AND GEAR DOWN LIGHT CHKED ON. A NORMAL LNDG FOLLOWED UNTIL THE NOSE PROCEEDED TO PITCH DOWN AND THE PROP CONTACTED THE RWY. WE SKIDDED TO A STOP AS THE NOSE GEAR COLLAPSED. AN FAA INSPECTOR PHOTOGRAPHED THE AIRPLANE AND INSPECTED THE RWY AND CABIN. THE ACFT WAS THEN TOWED FROM THE SCENE WITH THE MAIN GEAR STILL EXTENDED. MECHANICAL DOWNLOCK, FOR THE NOSE GEAR I THINK MAY HAVE FAILED. NO DETERMINATION HAS BEEN MADE AT THIS POINT. A SUGGESTION OF 3 GREEN LIGHTS INSTEAD OF ONE.
