Narrative:

Received clearance to cross brooke at 12000' MSL 250 KT which had been entered into FMC earlier. In retrospect the aircraft showed about 2000' above normal descent path at time the clearance was received but was not the reason we were unable to make crossing. I do not know why but at the time I thought there was lots of room until suddenly center was asking if we could make the crossing. An attempt was made but seems that the crossing could not be made. I asked the first officer to advise center of this fact. Before the first officer advised center, a frequency change was received and the first officer changed frequency before advising center. The new frequency was busy and we arrived at the fix. When advised of the crossing problem, center gave us a turn off arwys until altitude was reached. To my knowledge no other aircraft was involved.

Title: ACR MLG CROSSING RESTRICTION NOT MET IN DESCENT AT BRV.

Narrative: RECEIVED CLRNC TO CROSS BROOKE AT 12000' MSL 250 KT WHICH HAD BEEN ENTERED INTO FMC EARLIER. IN RETROSPECT THE ACFT SHOWED ABOUT 2000' ABOVE NORMAL DSNT PATH AT TIME THE CLRNC WAS RECEIVED BUT WAS NOT THE REASON WE WERE UNABLE TO MAKE XING. I DO NOT KNOW WHY BUT AT THE TIME I THOUGHT THERE WAS LOTS OF ROOM UNTIL SUDDENLY CTR WAS ASKING IF WE COULD MAKE THE XING. AN ATTEMPT WAS MADE BUT SEEMS THAT THE XING COULD NOT BE MADE. I ASKED THE F/O TO ADVISE CTR OF THIS FACT. BEFORE THE F/O ADVISED CTR, A FREQ CHANGE WAS RECEIVED AND THE F/O CHANGED FREQ BEFORE ADVISING CTR. THE NEW FREQ WAS BUSY AND WE ARRIVED AT THE FIX. WHEN ADVISED OF THE XING PROB, CTR GAVE US A TURN OFF ARWYS UNTIL ALT WAS REACHED. TO MY KNOWLEDGE NO OTHER ACFT WAS INVOLVED.
