Narrative:

We were caught 2000' high at the filmore crossing on the lax runway 24/25 profile descent. From FL330 we were cleared to FL250. We set the lower altitude and using the FMC started a capture descent. Out of FL280 the controller issued clearance to FL240. The new altitude (FL240) was set on both the MCP and the FMC (cruise FL240). The first officer returned his FMC to the legs page. The captain's FMC was on the 'legs' page throughout the entire event. We were cleared for the profile descent at approximately FL255. The bottom altitude restriction at filmore (15000') was set in the MCP. The aircraft seemed to be on a normal descent path when I noticed we were 1 mi from filmore and still at FL210. We disconnected the autoplt and began a 6000 FPM descent. It is unknown why the FMC did not capture the planned descent. Supplemental information from acn 170603: the FMC had generated that crossing restriction when the profile descent was selected. FMC failed to capture planned descent. At 1 NM prior to fim VOR at FL210 I disconnected the autoplt and automatic throttle and started a 6000 FPM descent for the 15000-19000' restriction. I failed to make that restriction.

Title: ACR ADV TECH MLG FLT CREW FAILS TO MEET CROSSING RESTRICTION IN DESCENT.

Narrative: WE WERE CAUGHT 2000' HIGH AT THE FILMORE XING ON THE LAX RWY 24/25 PROFILE DSNT. FROM FL330 WE WERE CLRED TO FL250. WE SET THE LOWER ALT AND USING THE FMC STARTED A CAPTURE DSNT. OUT OF FL280 THE CTLR ISSUED CLRNC TO FL240. THE NEW ALT (FL240) WAS SET ON BOTH THE MCP AND THE FMC (CRUISE FL240). THE F/O RETURNED HIS FMC TO THE LEGS PAGE. THE CAPT'S FMC WAS ON THE 'LEGS' PAGE THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE EVENT. WE WERE CLRED FOR THE PROFILE DSNT AT APPROX FL255. THE BOTTOM ALT RESTRICTION AT FILMORE (15000') WAS SET IN THE MCP. THE ACFT SEEMED TO BE ON A NORMAL DSNT PATH WHEN I NOTICED WE WERE 1 MI FROM FILMORE AND STILL AT FL210. WE DISCONNECTED THE AUTOPLT AND BEGAN A 6000 FPM DSNT. IT IS UNKNOWN WHY THE FMC DID NOT CAPTURE THE PLANNED DSNT. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 170603: THE FMC HAD GENERATED THAT XING RESTRICTION WHEN THE PROFILE DSNT WAS SELECTED. FMC FAILED TO CAPTURE PLANNED DSNT. AT 1 NM PRIOR TO FIM VOR AT FL210 I DISCONNECTED THE AUTOPLT AND AUTO THROTTLE AND STARTED A 6000 FPM DSNT FOR THE 15000-19000' RESTRICTION. I FAILED TO MAKE THAT RESTRICTION.
