Narrative:

We were approaching pit from the north, which normally mans the approach will be to 28R. There were thunderstorms and heavy rain in the area. While we were descending into pit before approach controller told us which runway to expect, we discussed the approach to 28R because we were coming in from the north. While we were deviating around WX, approach told us we'd be vectored for 28L, because we were busy looking at the radar and WX, we acknowledged the approach but forgot to dial in the different ILS for 28L--we'd preset 28R. When cleared for the approach, the autoplt was connected. We selected the ILS mode of the autoplt, causing the autoplt to capture and fly the ILS to 28R. About the FAF we switched over to tower and they questioned us about which runway we were going to land since we were cleared for the approach to 28L, but were lined up for 28R. We asked for 28R and were cleared to land on 28R. This was the copilot's first line trip with the airline and my fifth trip as a captain and in the aircraft, so we seemed to be paying too much attention to the WX and avoiding the storms that we did not x-chk the change required for the ILS.

Title: ACR MLG WRONG RWY APCH. ATCT LCL CTLR SAW THE ERROR AND AMENDED RWY ASSIGNMENT.

Narrative: WE WERE APCHING PIT FROM THE N, WHICH NORMALLY MANS THE APCH WILL BE TO 28R. THERE WERE TSTMS AND HEAVY RAIN IN THE AREA. WHILE WE WERE DSNDING INTO PIT BEFORE APCH CTLR TOLD US WHICH RWY TO EXPECT, WE DISCUSSED THE APCH TO 28R BECAUSE WE WERE COMING IN FROM THE N. WHILE WE WERE DEVIATING AROUND WX, APCH TOLD US WE'D BE VECTORED FOR 28L, BECAUSE WE WERE BUSY LOOKING AT THE RADAR AND WX, WE ACKNOWLEDGED THE APCH BUT FORGOT TO DIAL IN THE DIFFERENT ILS FOR 28L--WE'D PRESET 28R. WHEN CLRED FOR THE APCH, THE AUTOPLT WAS CONNECTED. WE SELECTED THE ILS MODE OF THE AUTOPLT, CAUSING THE AUTOPLT TO CAPTURE AND FLY THE ILS TO 28R. ABOUT THE FAF WE SWITCHED OVER TO TWR AND THEY QUESTIONED US ABOUT WHICH RWY WE WERE GOING TO LAND SINCE WE WERE CLRED FOR THE APCH TO 28L, BUT WERE LINED UP FOR 28R. WE ASKED FOR 28R AND WERE CLRED TO LAND ON 28R. THIS WAS THE COPLT'S FIRST LINE TRIP WITH THE AIRLINE AND MY FIFTH TRIP AS A CAPT AND IN THE ACFT, SO WE SEEMED TO BE PAYING TOO MUCH ATTN TO THE WX AND AVOIDING THE STORMS THAT WE DID NOT X-CHK THE CHANGE REQUIRED FOR THE ILS.
