Narrative:

I was preparing to fly IFR. Once I had received my IFR clearance from ATC; I was instructed to contact ground control and I received instructions to taxi to runway xx for takeoff. I was also told by ATC to report once my run up was complete in order to contact tower for takeoff. After I finished my run up and I received my takeoff clearance from the tower; I entered the runway; the airplane started pulling to the left and the brakes faded; causing the airplane to almost cross over to the blast pad of runway xx. I continuously applied right rudder to turn the airplane to the right; but it did not respond and the aircraft kept rolling to the left. I immediately cut the power and shut off the engine to prevent the airplane from crossing over to the blast pad. I notified tower of the issue and they sent a tow truck to pull the aircraft from the runway. They directed traffic to runway yy instead for the next five minutes. One of the runway end lights was damaged by the propeller as I shut the engine off and the aircraft got closer to the blast pad. I performed my preflight inspection thoroughly before flight and I found no issues during taxi to the runway. It could have been aircraft malfunction of the rudders or perhaps the hot temperature that caused the brakes to become unresponsive during my run up. I do not know exactly what might have caused this issue; but the airplane was taken back to the ramp for further review. Minor damage to the upper tips of the propeller due to contact with the runway end light. I was not hurt or injured in any way (sole occupant); and no impact occurred with any aircraft whatsoever. Minor runway closure.

Title: Cessna 172 pilot reported difficulty maintaining directional control while taxiing onto the runway for takeoff. The aircraft veered toward the runway edge; causing the propeller tips to strike a taxi light. The aircraft was towed from the runway to the ramp for a maintenance evaluation.
