Narrative:

Kalamazoo airport (azo) was using runways 17-23 for takeoffs and lndgs. My aircraft, an small transport, was cleared to land 3-4 mi out on base and was asked to square my turn to final (no reason given). On a 1 1/2 - 2 mi final an aircraft was cleared for takeoff and another was to position and hold runway 23. I assumed the first aircraft was to depart runway 17 but did not see it. On short final 1/2 - 1/4 mi I saw an small aircraft positioning and continuing roll for takeoff on 23. I aborted landing and crossed over the other aircraft by 200' at the intersection of 17/23. I feel I was given a landing clearance too far out given the number of trainers that I later saw holding short of 23. The radio was very quiet on my initial call to the tower then became active with the trainers on 23. I feel the controller just forgot about runway 17 and was concentrating on 23.

Narrative: KALAMAZOO ARPT (AZO) WAS USING RWYS 17-23 FOR TKOFS AND LNDGS. MY ACFT, AN SMT, WAS CLRED TO LAND 3-4 MI OUT ON BASE AND WAS ASKED TO SQUARE MY TURN TO FINAL (NO REASON GIVEN). ON A 1 1/2 - 2 MI FINAL AN ACFT WAS CLRED FOR TKOF AND ANOTHER WAS TO POSITION AND HOLD RWY 23. I ASSUMED THE FIRST ACFT WAS TO DEPART RWY 17 BUT DID NOT SEE IT. ON SHORT FINAL 1/2 - 1/4 MI I SAW AN SMA POSITIONING AND CONTINUING ROLL FOR TKOF ON 23. I ABORTED LNDG AND CROSSED OVER THE OTHER ACFT BY 200' AT THE INTXN OF 17/23. I FEEL I WAS GIVEN A LNDG CLRNC TOO FAR OUT GIVEN THE NUMBER OF TRAINERS THAT I LATER SAW HOLDING SHORT OF 23. THE RADIO WAS VERY QUIET ON MY INITIAL CALL TO THE TWR THEN BECAME ACTIVE WITH THE TRAINERS ON 23. I FEEL THE CTLR JUST FORGOT ABOUT RWY 17 AND WAS CONCENTRATING ON 23.
