Narrative:

Preparation for IFR x-country flight with start-up and taxi to taxiway a short distance off grass parking site thru run-up and system check with call to ground for clearance IFR. On completion of readback, told to taxi to runway. As I was already at runway, I moved ahead onto active runway as landing aircraft had already passed. I then realized I had not called tower! And was on runway. On calling tower I was reminded to contact tower before taxiing onto active. Factors that led to this occurrence were short spacing, a hurry-up altitude and previous experience at uncontrolled fields with frequent touch and goes. I believe future prethought and then active both on radio and of aircraft will prevent a recurrence.
