Flight lga to iah, 3/89, 10-15 minutes in flight climbing through 17000' #2 (right) engine failed. Immediately followed flight manual procedures while repositioning vector to nearest airport from ATC, ths was newark. Followed all flight manual procedures for single engine landing. No other problems.

Narrative: FLT LGA TO IAH, 3/89, 10-15 MINUTES IN FLT CLBING THROUGH 17000' #2 (RIGHT) ENG FAILED. IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWED FLT MANUAL PROCS WHILE REPOSITIONING VECTOR TO NEAREST ARPT FROM ATC, THS WAS NEWARK. FOLLOWED ALL FLT MANUAL PROCS FOR SINGLE ENG LNDG. NO OTHER PROBS.
